Beavers - Busy and bright!

The Beaver Colony

Our Beaver Colony is for the Group's youngest members age 6 to 8 meet. Both boys and girls are welcome to join and enjoy the fun as we are "Busy and Bright".

Beavers enjoy a very fun packed programme of indoor and outdoor activities which includes crafts, personal skills, basic cooking, camp fire songs as well as playing team games.

All of this is aimed at developing confidence in a social and safe environment.

The 5th Wiltshire Beaver Colony is made up of a number of lodges which are named after forest animals. Each Lodge has a Lodge Leader who helps ensure that their Lodge works together well. The Lodge Leader also helps look after the younger and newer members.

What We Do

Beavers learn the ‘Friends of the Forest' story which is about a beaver growing up and moving on to be a Wolf Cub.

When you are introduced to the Leaders of the Beaver Colony you will find that they have names taken from the ‘Friends of the Forest' book. Our Leaders have names such as Malak, Tic Tac and Rainbow.

Beavers learn about their local community, county, country and the wider world by visiting local public services and places of interest. All of this goes towards ensuring our Beavers achieve the four footprint badges for Learning, Developing, Exploring and Discovering before aiming to achieve their Dam Builder badge which is the sections highest badge.

Beavers can also earn a Project Award, Hobby Award and Friendship Badge (just to name a few).

They regularly do nature walks, explore their local surroundings and gain an appreciation and respect of the world around them.

Beavers also get together with other B-PSA Colonies for fun days and exciting adventures.

Whilst the Beavers are not old enough to go camping on their own - they don't miss out as sleepovers and weekend day trips are all part of a Beavers programme.

We sometimes even have Beaver and Parent Camps!
