Scout Patrol Camp 2019
At the Troop's third of six camps this year they undertook a traditional Patrol Camp. This focussed on a wide range of practical hands on activities. They began with setting up a variety of different makes of tent and building out the patrol area. They then took part in an in depth review and discussion on all the kit required to live at camp independently. This was then followed by using all their knot and lashing knowledge to build a wood store, washing line, entrance sign, patrol pennant and mascot stand as well as a washing up stand complete with washing, rinsing and drying areas. After making their own lunch they learned how to find compass directions without a compass then tried out half a dozen different methods to estimate heights and widths before researching their own pacing over 10m walking on the flat up and downhill which will help them plan their route cards in the autumn prior to the long hike weekend. For dinner the two groups cooked pasta bolognese or chicken stir fry which was followed by wood collecting and chopping in the woods before a warming campfire and cake, marshmallows and chocolate biscuits. On Sunday we presented Emma with her Second Class Award after a year of hard effort and finished the camp with a session of Axe Throwing. Next camp is the week long summer expedition to Cornwall in August.
